RIP JULIE ADAMS........THE ONE WHO GOT AWAY.........FROM THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.....

Julie Adams (1926-2019)   Though she enjoyed a long career in film and television, Julie Adams will forever remain in movie buffs fond memories for the singularly iconic role she played while a 1950's starlet........the great love of the lonely fish man, The Creature Of The Black Lagoon....

Film historians, movie directors and plain old movie nuts like the BQ can never forget the strangely sad, seductive sight of the the Creature swimming underneath the unsuspecting Julie, mirroring her every move...........a stunning visual metaphor for unrequited lost love......(and lust as well, if you want to throw that into the mix.....)

Decades later, actress Sally Hawkins would get to do the full aqua-hubba-hubba with her very own fish-hunk in Del Toro's 'Black Lagoon' tribute, "The Shape Of Water"   But in 1954, the poor Black Lagoon lover's crush on Julie Adams stayed amphibiously out of reach......in that regard, the scaly monster was sort of Jay Gatsby with gills, staring longingly at the green light on Daisy Buchanan's dock......

As for Julie Adams, she enjoyed a long, fruitful career in everything from "Tickle Me" with Elvis Presley to Dennis Hopper's "The Last Movie"

She gamely accepted her place in film history as the Gill-Man's "one who got away" and always spoke perceptively on the film's staying power........and its powerful empathy with its titular monster.........which ultimately evolved into a Best Picture Oscar for Guillermo Del Toro.......

                     Rest In Piece, Julie Adams.
