FROM THE 70'S PARANOIA PARADE......."THE TEARS OF AUTUMN"....

The Tears Of Autumn by Charles McCarry (1975)  Couldn't get enough of these as young 'un....... CIA or FBI of just plain Average Joes uncovering vast evil conspiracies.......usually backed by the government........

Yes, the "Deep State" existed!   But only in thriller fiction........(Memo to Baby Orange: it still only exits in thriller fiction.....no matter how much you babble on about it.....)

This one's a huge fave.....in 1963, ace CIA guy Paul Christopher easily figures out the Vietnamese assassinated JFK, pissed off  cause they think he engineered a government coup.....leading to deaths of strongmen Diem and Ngo......

Off our intrepid spy-guy goes......off the grid and determined to prove his theory right, even if it means surviving multiple attempts on his life....

Not another word from us on the plot..........you need to delve into the twists and turns yourself to fully enjoy it all.......(and finely crafted prose too, equal to Le Carre......

BQ recommends all fellow Armchair Spymasters crack this one open for some breathless summer espionage.......no top secret about the rating here......4 stars (****)
