'MR. ROOSEVELT'.......WHY DO INDIE FILM CHARACTERS EVER WANT TO GO HOME?

Mr. Roosevelt (2017)    New Year Resolution:   This will be the very last Independent film we'll sit through about a show-biz Millennial struggling in the big city, who endures a catastrophically humiliating trip back home.

Memo from the BQ to all comedians who luck into the rare opportunity,  like this film's Noel Wells, to write, direct and perform in their own film........

FOR GOD'S SAKE, COME UP WITH SOMETHING BESIDES YOU SHLEPPING BACK HOME TO A SERIES OF AWKWARD, MORTIFYING ENCOUNTERS WITH YOUR EX  AND ALMOST EVERYBODY ELSE YOU RUN INTO.. IT'S ****ING OLD AND EVERY OTHER FLEDGLING COMIC-FILMMAKER HAS DONE IT ALREADY!

Actress-comedian Wells plays a....(what a stretch).... actress-comedian who races home to comfort her terminally-ailing ex-cat, Mr.Roosevelt, now in the custody of her ex-boyfriend (Nick Thune) and his efficiently charming new live-in partner. (Britt Lower).

If you've see the last 10 movies that adhere to this carved-in-stone Indie plotline (as we have), then we don't need to go into any more detail.......you can write the rest yourself.  Yes, the neurotic, self pitying Wells runs a punishing gauntlet of situations that take her already low self-esteem to all new depths.

Some of this is supposed to be funny......we think. Some of it aspires to make you both cringe and sympathize with Wells.......we think. As for the cringe-worthy stuff......at this point, it just makes us yawn.

We did find one bright glimmer in this sea of so-called comic woe.....actress Daniella Pineda, playing a kick-ass rock drummer and all around freewheeling free spirit. Since she's the only breath of fresh air in the whole film, we wish the movie had been about her.

We'll now add this new resolution to 'Lose-more-weight', 'Take-more-walks' and 'Finish-That-screenplay'.......absolutely no more 'Millennial Goes Home' indie films. 1 & 1/2 stars....(*1/2), and those few strictly for Pineda's presence.
