Kleo - Season 2 (Netflix 2024)) Way back on 10/20/22 we awarded this rollicking, ultra-violent German series from Neflix 4 stars.....
It's back for a 2nd season and still a ridiculous, funny and blood splattered romp through a re-unified Germany after the crumbling of the infamous East German communist GDR government.
And back in action is Kleo Straub (Jella Haase) the Kewpie Doll cute Stasi hit girl, still bent on bringing instant death to her GDR betrayers and exposing their secret plans to put themselves back in power.
Once again Haase is a one woman wonder to watch, a mad, mad mash-up of 'Kill Bill's The Bride, 'Dragon Tattoo' pixie Lisabeth Salender, 'Killing Eve's Villanelle, 'Batman's Harley Quinn, and 'Mad Max's Furiosa.
And still making futile attempts to apply the brake of morals on her and curb her appetite for carnage is her would-be partner Sven Petzold (Dimitrij Schaad) a hapless West German cop. A perfect mismatch, they're the most unlikely, yet adorable action-adventure comedy team.
Kleo remains on the hunt for the elusive suitcase containing secret plans to re-convert newly liberated Germany back into a Soviet controlled puppet dictatorship......with the help of KGB mastermind Zhukov (Andrej Kaminsky).
In six breathless episodes, Kleo works her way through this vast parade of villains like a human buzzsaw, and we'll just leave you to sit back and savor all the gory goodness without the going into details...(as well as some stunning revelations in Kleo's past)
For all who dote on Tarantino-ish romps like 'Hanna' and 'Atomic Blonde' , here's another fine guilty pleasure wallow. 4 stars (****).
