'THE PERFECT ESCAPE'.....JUST ANOTHER GIRLS' TRIP INTO HELL....

The Perfect Escape by Leah Konen (2022)   Hey kids, what time is it?  It's....psycho-thriller time! Yay!

BQ visitors know well of our addiction to  psychological thrillers......and there's anything we learn from plowing through these, one after the other, it's these simple truths.....

           1. Every character, more or less lies or conceals something from everyone else in the story....and you the reader are included in that deception......

            2. Most of the people in twisty thrillers are not even who they say they are......

            3. Road trips will never end well......and will usually finish with one or more dead bodies and a host of secrets revealed......

So off we go to for a Catskill mountain getaway for three mid-30's New York City divorcees.....Sam, Margaret and Diana......all of them trying to put the memories of their ex-hubbies far behind them

That is, off we go until their rental car key goes missing while they make a gas stop at a sleepy little town along they way. And, then, as fate and thrillers would have it, Diana goes missing.....

Diana and the car key may have disappeared but oopsie-daisy, two out of the three estranged husbands suddenly....surprise, surprise....pop up in town.  Well, maybe not a total surprise since one of these guys coincidentally happens to live in the town they stopped in.....imagine that.

To thicken up the plot a little more, when the dogged local detective starts looking into Diana's dropping out of sight, it turns out there's no identities records whatsoever for her....as if no such person ever existed.......hmm......

Can the body of a murder victim be far behind amid all this mystery?   Seriously, do you even have to ask?  But it's not who you think it is.....and come to think of it, it's possible nobody's who they say they are.....(or are they?)

Now that we've had our fun tantalizing you with the description, feel free to dive right in and zip through this one at top speed. The twists come at you fast and furiously and true to all psychological thrillers, author Leah Konen wraps it up with a final zinger of a reveal.......

We can't help gobbling up thrillers like Reece's peanut butter cups, so all we can do is recommend "The Perfect Escape" as another 4 star (****) up-all-nighter to go on your TBR list.  And for God's sake, avoid road trips with friends unless you've had them thoroughly investigated by the FBI, CIA, MI6, New York Times, and Dr. Fauci.........Happy reading!
